What is a RSS Feed?
RSS (Rich Site Summary) is a way to grab changing web content without having to continually visit that particular site. Blogs, video blogs, news organizations all use RSS feeds to offer their content to readers. This way you don’t have to share your information with them or sign up for anything.
RSS feeds have a distinctive logo that leads to the URL for the feed generally. Once you have the URL then you can put that in your favorite RSS reader that takes the information and puts it all in one place in a readable format for you. |
Why Use an RSS Feed
The web is full of useful and not useful information. If you keep up with 5 or 10 blogs and the posts change weekly (some change daily!) Then you have to visit all of those sites to check and see if you are interested in the latest article. With RSS feeds, you can look in one place (your reader) and check them all very quickly. It is almost like a newspaper where you choose the content.
